Cycling from Rayle Farm Holiday Cottages
Rayle Farm is ideally situated as a central cornish location from which to explore on two wheels.
We are a matter of yards from the Mineral Tramway Cycle Route, which runs from Devoran
(on the south coast of Cornwall) to Portreath on the north coast. This cycle route comprises primarily
off-road cycling terrain, mainly of 'made-up' tracks, with short lengths of road around Redruth.
It's total length is around 17 miles.
Also just up the road is 'The Track', a purpose built cycling track designed for
mountain bikes and BMXs with various humps, bumps and jumps.
Other cycling routes close to Rayle Farm Holiday Cottages
The Great Flat Lode
This is a fairly easy going route ideal for families and explores the area around the foot of Carn
Brea, just to the south of Redruth. The terrain is a mixture of off-road and on with the off road
tracks also varying in type.
Distance: approx 13km
There are various places to start / park for this route all within a 15 - 20 minute
drive from Rayle Farm Holiday Cottages.
Tehidy Country Park
Not so much a cycle route as such, but an area of woodland with various wide, marked trails to
have some two-wheeled fun.
Distance: Approx 5km
Idless Woods
Another short excursion, but one well worth the trip. Just north of the county town of Truro, Idless
is a Forestry Commission run woodland area on the side of a hill.
All the trails are off road with one large made-up track running up the middle and
smaller trails either side, it's easy to ride away a couple of hours here.
Distance: between 3 and 10km depending on the tracks you follow.
One note on Idless is that it is a popular dog walking area, so you need to keep
an eye out for our four-legged friends...
Further Afield
There are several good trails within a sensible travelling distance of Rayle Farm Holiday Cottages.
Cardinham Woods
Travelling Time: Approx 1 hour
Terrain: off-road made-up tracks
Cardinham is another major Forestry Commission area and as such specifically aimed
at multiple use. Mountain Biking is encouraged and there are several areas that provide exciting
cross country riding along with some good 'downs' for the adrenalin junkies. There's plenty of parking
and picnic / barbecue area as well as a cafe and toilet.
The Camel Trail
Travel Time: Approx 45 Mins
Distance: 11 miles
Terrain: primarily off-road made-up tracks
The Camel Trail is one of Cornwall's best known cycle tracks and is very 'family
friendly'. Without too many hills it follows the route of the Camel River from Wadebridge to Padstow
making use of the disused railway routes.
Cycle hire is available at both ends of the trail.
