Cornwall Cottages Diary

October - From the Farm

September has been a glorious month in Cornwall - lots of lovely warm sunshine and blue skies. There is a wonderful show of sunflowers in front of the farmhouse and the flavour of the blackberries is superb. Have managed to make some bramble jelly – nothing like it with some Rodda’s clotted cream and a scone or two.

Talking of food, had an excellent outing to the Cornwall Festival of Food and Drink in Truro. The displays of cheeses, chocolates, cakes, jams, fish, ciders and wines etc. were absolutely amazing and a lot of tasting took place!

On the farm we haven’t got into the tedious business of gathering up the fallen leaves yet as they are very late turning due to the gorgeous weather.

August - From The Farm

I can’t believe that this time last month we were looking for rain. We have certainly found it! Still sunshine is set to return again soon we are told.

Only one heifer left to calve now so we have sixteen bouncing babies galloping around watched by their disapproving mothers. Arnie, the charolais bull, has just arrived for six weeks in residence.

Had a very pleasant day down in Fowey. There were a couple of tall ships moored up in the river.

Falmouth is gearing up for its Sailing Week. I always enjoy their spectacular firework display over the harbour.

Hopefully, the family will be down for the Bank Holiday weekend and we will go on an outing to the Newlyn Fish Festival – the grilled sardines down there are to die for!
