National Seal Sanctuary

The Sanctuary started in the winter of 1958 when a baby seal, only a few hours old, was washed up on the beach at St Agnes. Ken Jones lived with his wife just one hundred yards from the beach, he picked up the pup and took it back to his small garden.
For many years he ran a rescue centre for seals and oiled birds, with just one pool, at St Agnes. The news of his work with seals spread, and he received more and more calls about injured seals.
Today the Sanctuary has nursery pools, convalescence, and resident pools, and a specially designed hospital. And provides an interesting and fun experience for the whole family.
Pendennis Castle

For a great value family day out in Cornwall, take a trip to Pendennis Castle, Falmouth, one of the finest of the mighty fortresses built by Henry VIII to defend the country against invasion. The castle has seen action in many conflicts and was one of the last royalist strongholds to fall during the English Civil War.
You can witness a Tudor gun deck in action here and see how the Guardhouse was equipped during the First World War. This award-winning visitor attraction in the south west also boasts an exciting interactive exhibition where you can experience the sights and sounds of battle and relive an enemy attack on a Second World War observation post.
Lost Gardens of Heligan

Heligan, seat of the Tremayne family for more than 400 years, is one of the most mysterious estates in England.
At the end of the nineteenth century its thousand acres were at their zenith, but only a few years later bramble and ivy were already drawing a green veil over this “Sleeping Beauty”. After decades of neglect, the devastating hurricane of 1990 should have consigned the Lost Gardens of Heligan to a footnote in history.
Instead, events conspired to bring us here and the romance of their decay took a hold on our imaginations. Our discovery of a tiny room, buried under fallen masonry in the corner of one of the walled gardens, was to unlock the secret of their demise.
This hidden gem is a must-visit feature of Cornwall

Mineral Tramways Discovery Centre

On 13th July 2006 select mining landscapes across Cornwall and west Devon were inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site placing Cornwall and west Devon’s historic mining heritage on a par with such international treasures as Stonehenge, the Taj Mahal and the Great Wall of China.
The Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape World Heritage Site bid project (2001 - 2006) was compiled on behalf of a family of organisations and individuals with a shared belief in the value of our mining history. Many of the partners in the World Heritage Site own or operate important mining landscapes and attractions, through which the story of Cornish Mining will be made available to the public. The World Heritage Site team have developed a Cornish Mining “brand” within which our partners will operate, based on our internationally important cultural characteristics and the principles and standards expected of a World Heritage Site, although all of the organisations and individuals involved remain independent.
